5.5 Foot vs 6.5 Foot Bed

I have a 5.5' bed in my Tacoma. Really limiting when it comes to hauling (lumber, mulch, & rider lawn mower are my most frequent). With my mower, I have to leave the tailgate down, I imagine the same will be true for anyone with an ATV/motorcycle. I have a bed extender, it helps but it's not as flexible / useful as what I could put into the (presumed) tie-down system in the CT.

Even with the bed extender, I'm never 100% comfortable with 8' boards and probably wouldn't consider anything longer. There are a lot of hills and bumps in the roads I drive in Eastern Kentucky (and I think I'm the only CT reservation in a WIDE radius). I constantly stress about losing cargo.

I'm really hopeful I can use what look like T-slots in the tailgate to add a vertical plate to give me a real barrier at the 8' mark.

I wonder logistically how easy / difficult it would be for Tesla to offer the 2 different bed sizes. Biggest issue I see if the different sizes in wheelbase and having to alter battery and drive train setups.

I have never had a pickup truck in my life. CT will be my first one and I prefer to have a 6.5-foot bed. I do not think this 1 foot will help to park it on a street, but it will definitely help when you need to haul something long, or even ATV.

The 1 foot is UGE when it comes to parking, especially a parking building downtown.

6.5, I use my truck for truck things not for looks. I have 6'9" now and still wish it was like 3" longer, I fit a kids rzr in the bed but cant quite shut the tailgate...

Rivian is 4.5'. Not a truck IMO. Love the design but that is a deal breaker for me. CyberTruck got it right. 6.5 is a great middle ground.

I'm not a fan of this particular vehicle's ego-driven design. I put a down payment on this because of Tesla vehicle quality, a 400 mi range, 4wd with ground clearance and, for this: it better be a damn pick-up.

My current pickup has an 9' long and 8' wide bed (1-ton flat bed); two 4x8 sheets can go side by side if need be, along with a full width couch, appliances, chairs and more - in one go. I haul wood, steel, vehicles, dirt, rock, etc.
