the problem has always been the name "auto pilot". if it was "driver assist" people wouldn't be zoning out behind the wheel. FSD will get there one day. i just don't expect to see mass adoption for another couple decades.

How often do human drivers make that mistake?

the problem has always been the name "auto pilot". if it was "driver assist" people wouldn't be zoning out behind the wheel. FSD will get there one day. i just don't expect to see mass adoption for another couple decades.

Why?

That's not what autopilot in an airplane did.

And people made the same mistakes with cruise control, too.

There's no magical naming convention that would give perfect understanding.

You mean the driver that was watching a movie and not operating the vehicle properly? That accident?

How many accidents happen because someone wasn’t using cruise control properly?

Statistics do matter, but I understand the argument that most of the auto pilot driving is done on the freeway. I still love driving and will always want the ability to drive myself, but those mundane commutes I’m happy to relinquish to technology.

I never expected lifetime connectivity or Homelink and they were never promised for the CT, but all the important things Tesla promised need to be there and I expect only more from Tesla, not less. Tesla really doesn’t do options. Ok, they charge for a trailer hitch, but who doesn’t. So maybe we should look at that list of features that are on the features thread and see what happens. We have over a year to fret over it, do you really want to start now?

The topic is about can or will they meet the price/range promoted at the unveiling. I was just pointing out that they probably will but will all the promised equipment be in every price point and as history is/has shown us, the equipment and price is open to change. When I first put down my $1k reservation money pre-reveal on my Model 3, it was because I was expecting to get a Tesla for $35k and felt it amazing that a dream could come true. As the actual release got closer, the realization was that I would either be waiting much longer or paying much more. I choose to pay more to get my LR Rwd in June of 2018 and I'm happy with it but the $58k I paid for it wasn't my plan. Just letting all the new to Tesla potential owners know that there is still much to learn about the Cybertruck and save as much money as you can now while you wait for it. I have no doubt it will be amazing and the best vehicle most of us have or will ever own just like my Model 3 is to me now.

In the truck world, Tesla is not a competitor. They don’t make a truck yet. When they finally do, then we can begin to see what the effects will be. As awesome as the CT might be, many things need to be decided on, changed and modified before it actually hits the road.

But, they are a competitor from at least one point of view. Tesla literally stole the sale of an F350 Platinum which I was planning on. Instead, I sold my truck and am waiting on a Cybertruck. That's minus one F-350 sale for Ford this year compliments of Tesla.

Have you looked at the Model Y configurator or talked to anyone in the showroom? They are charging for the hitch setup, and its like $1,000. But maybe you are right; maybe on the CT they won't charge for it. I'd love that, but I am prepared to pay for it nonetheless. That said, it was never part of the specs they gave out.

I'm with you Ty. I sold my Subaru and am ready to sell my Dodge 3500 as soon as I get the CT. It cost me $1,600 for a brake job just on the front today and they tell me the manifold gasket is leaking and the transmission gasket too, as well as needing an oil change. I feel for the mechanic shop, Napa, and the dealerships when the the CT comes out but I am sick, sick, sick of supporting this auto industry with their planned obsolescence.
