  1. How Europe Became the World's Biggest Electric-Car Market -- and Why It Might Not Last

The only point of reference I know is Norway. Here the incentive for EV is just not applying any tax on EVs, while ICE cars have been heavily taxed (35-50%) for decades. So easily implemented with a huge effect. In addition tolls, city slow-charging and parking have been free, and EVs can drive...
  2. How Europe Became the World's Biggest Electric-Car Market -- and Why It Might Not Last

Of course it won’t last, and let’s be glad when it doesn’t. Subsidies are tax money after all. Incentives are great to promote change (I’ve taken a huge share) but will fall when markets mature. Which hopefully and probably means we’re at a point where it just makes more economical sense to go...
  3. The technical challenges of bidirectional chargers

True. CCS’ roadmap shows it to be fully V2X (V2G and V2H) compliant in 2025 because of the amount of international standards to agree upon first. https://thedriven.io/2020/07/21/the-road-to-bidirectional-ccs-electric-car-charging/ But, yes, if they focused solely on the DC part of the equation...
  4. The technical challenges of bidirectional chargers

Nissan has delivered Leaf EVs with V2G (or V2H) since at least 2016, but as well as the feature only being available in Japan and certain euro markets, I don’t know if it’s ever surpassed pilot projects with grid owners...
  5. Tesla’s Full Self-Driving subscription is coming in Q2 2021

Isn’t some of the idea that you can subscribe to it for a month when you’re going on a trip and ditch it again? I can see them charge a bit extra for the benefit of turning it off and on at whim. Maybe just the holidays of a year. Others who pay up front have also paid for it when they’re just...
  6. First principles pondering

I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you but the main fuel storage with regard to EVs is in the car itself, and what the media calls “a Tesla fire” is supposedly very hard to put out. That’s a pretty media-friendly fire as well. So much so that here there’s concerns around underground/ground...
  7. Maybe Single motor is all you need?

I’m at a place between dual and tri. AWD is a given up over here. And I’m leaning towards tri although 95% of driving is less than 100km (these were the approx statistics released here by the EV foundation). But for the city and commutes (one of us) we have the Model 3 (or another small city...
  8. Cybertruck’s Yoke-Style Steering Wheel Revealed by Way of Model S and X Updated Interiors?!

Thanks for keeping an eye out. Is the instrument cluster bigger than it used to be as well? In the second image it looks very wide compared to the new bigger 17" center screen. Could be perspective. I have a feeling it will feel very alien even just *holding* this yoke instead of a standard...
  9. First principles pondering

The hydrogen refueling stations in Oslo, Norway, were «green» and based on sea water and solar, but were getting fewer after declining demand, until one exploded in 2019 and has been closed since. I think there’s just one place left now but that’s of course incredibly impractical for the few...
  10. Tesla - the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs

Well, I’m at my job to take the blame for railroad projects which go over budget and are further delayed. An irreplaceable whipping boy, which Dojo will be much too intelligent to want to take over ?
  11. Use Cybertruck as stationary power source.

Make sure that is a 4G/5G capable WiFi router in case the whole neighborhood is down (or starlink) ? I have a home automation system which, when the automatic transfer switch kicks in and power is drawn from the CT, I planned would lower the temperature by 1-2 degrees (from the home’s...
  12. The logical progression of Cybertruck ...a Cyberhouse to go with it!

Surely, this is the Cybertruck-equivalent motor yacht ! ? The Wallypower 118 launched in 2002. Combined diesel waterjets and triple gas turbines with a max speed of just above 60 knots. The total power output is 16,800 horsepower (12,500 kW). Unfortunately not exactly emission free but I’ve...
  13. Use Cybertruck as stationary power source.

I’m clearly no electrical engineer but I was thinking more along the lines of a new accompanying wallcharger which turns around to «suck» power from the CT when the home supply drops off. A more complicated home installation for sure, but the CT would also perhaps need some important changes to...
  14. Use Cybertruck as stationary power source.

Current Teslas aside, it would be very forward thinking of Tesla to make it easily available to use such a huge battery (tri-motor CT) as an emergency battery for the home it’s just parked outside. It would have use even when you’re not out driving in it, and the total value would be even greater.
  15. Will the Cybertruck be allowed to drive in Europe?

Sweden is in the EU. Neighboring Norway is not. But I still don’t know if these would be local Swedish regulations or if they will be harmonized across the EU. Would be very good for us CT-preorderers here though (Norway usually follows EU too). In danger of whipping a dead horse, I agree with...
  16. Tesla applies for Giga Texas to be a foreign trade zone

I’m sure I didn’t quite understand the implications but on this sunny Sunday morning I’ll take it as a sign that CT actually will be exported (eventually) ?
  17. Electric ferries, batteries and charging

I just came over this news today and found the charging and battery bit amazing. Maybe others do as well. The world’s largest electric ferry is set in operation in Norway Monday. Actually 3 of them on the same line. Moving 3.8 million passengers and 1.8 million cars each year. Each one has a...
  18. Apple supplier Foxconn to build first electric vehicle with Fisker

You could say that but Tesla still has a good deal of years on their back by now and have spent some years to get to the level of quality of the cars they make today. They were even so early they had to make cars with fake grilles (early S) that reminded people of ICE cars, which among other...
  19. High-voltage EV battery packs: benefits and challenges. More voltage, more better?

The New Huyndai Ioniq 5 which is starting to get reviewed around here and could become popular, sports a 800 V system. It looks fairly cool and futuristic too but I am prejudiced and expect a plastic fantastic interior and an odd and confusing information UI and choice of buttons. Thanks for...
  20. Apple supplier Foxconn to build first electric vehicle with Fisker

Tri-motor cabbage then please. Xiaomi thinks a lot of things are just sticking some plastic, battery and electronics together, and it looks good in images and from a certain distance, yet I still keep getting disappointed and prefer other brands of stuff. It’s more expensive but I think US or...
