How close will the final truck be to this?

This truck had no mirrors which I think is a law and nowhere at all for a windshield wiper, and he never showed us how the bed or rear cover works!

I remember seeing something recently about Tesla getting a patent for a windshield wiper that moves across horizontally on rails. Also, there is another car...maybe the e-tron?...that has cameras instead of rear-view mirrors.

I believe that cameras are legal in place of traditional mirrors, like the McLaren Speedtail. But I’m hoping the whole reveal was a joke and we’ll see the actual design tomorrow lol

I saw something the other day about a new car that had cameras for side mirrors but it was only available in other countries because it was NOT legal in the States. Final production will have mirrors

I don't see that front end meeting DOT requirements for pedestrian impacts.

I would assume they sorted these issues before this reveal. I hope they stay as true to this design as possible.

The Honda E prototype has the best side mirror camera's I've seen yet. I believe Fully Charged did a segment on Honda's set up.

The law in USA could easily change by 2022. So it is very possible it will not have mirrors.

Elon has been remarkably accurate when revealing new models, go back and watch if you question how this will look. People assumed Falcon Doors wouldn’t make production and they never strayed from them. Elimination of side mirrors with need DOT approval, but we have a few years to work that out.

Tesla has applied for a change to side mirror requirement as well as Toyota to allow cameras in place of side mirrors. The next 60 days it is open for comment on NHTSA.

I placed a public comment (in favor, of course). These aren't votes, just comments NHTSA can consider, or ignore.

I’ll go with 85%-90% of what we saw at roll out last week. There will be changes over the 2-3 year waiting period, me thinks.

Agreed and doubt Tesla feels any public pressure to change the design when the preorders are strong and public sentiment seems to have changed (or softened) since the day it was revealed.

Even if camera only became legal, I think I would want exterior mirrors. Just based on my experience with cameras in adverse conditions like rain, ice, and snow.

One thing that will certainly change are the rear lights/tail gate.

When the tail gate is down, as it would be to carry a 4x8 sheet of plywood, the brake lights, tail lights, and blinkers are no longer visible.

It's too bad because I really like the way the backend looks.

There are lights in the frame around the tailgate opening.
