Cybertruck Prototype MIA?

I wonder what is going on with the CT prototype? We were seeing many pictures, videos, etc out there of sightings.

However since the static display of it at the museum, it has disappeared from public view. I have not seen any new footage of it in a while.

Could this mean they have dismantled it and are making modifications?

That is exactly what I'm assuming. I'm sure they want production to start for everyones Cybertruck as soon as the factory is built. However, they don't have a final design yet and I'm sure everyone will appreciate them modifying the prototype to basically become the same as the production truck.

I'm not sure if they still plan to move the center line back at all, I know Elon retracted his statement of making the Cybertruck 3% smaller, which I am very thankful for. I like a big truck and I'm never going to park this thing in the garage on my house. But I know Elon said that the slope of the windshield was hard and that was one reason that they might have moved the centerline back and we haven't heard if that will still happen. Eitherway, i'm sure it will still look badass.

I'm really hoping with get to see that prototype in the near future with a folding wall to passthrough from the cab to the bed with. I've already planned a central Alberta - Vancouver - SF - NY - Toronto Roadtrip and I would prefer camping in my truck than hotels.

This is my guess and just a guess. I’m not basing it off anything I’ve read. I think the prototype will pop back up on or around battery day. Then hopefully Cybertruck makes the cross country drive to show off to everyone.

Rather than modify the original I suspect they would build newer prototypes.
The original is likely going to end up in a museum or collection.

Tesla will need many development mules and the manufacturing tooling and lessons learned will be the basis for the design of the line(s) in Austin.

I think this is spot on. We may never see the reveal prototype again, or if we do it may be a long time from now in a museum or some rich guy's collection. It could be that the next public appearance of the CT will be an all new prototype/mule. But that's just another guess.

God I hope there adding a real steering wheel, side mirrors and usable storage and a second charge port just in time for the Sept meeting. That would make me smile. If they make it shorter I’m in for that too.

I personally would love to see it with a tesla charge port and either a J1772 or SAE Combo CCS for maximum charging flexibility without adapters

Some people have been wondering if it would have two charge ports, each hooked to one battery in the Trimotor, allowing double speed charging.

I hope so too. BTW, a CCS type 1 used in North America is compatible with J1772. So all it needs is a CCS type 1 port and it will work with that and J1772 with no need for adapters, J1772 just doesn't use the 2 separate DC pins. I was hoping that with the release of the Model 3, that Tesla would switch to CCS1 and provide adapters for their proprietary plug. Didn't happen for us, but Europe has it better.

They're putting the new battery packs in and testing the range. The goal is 750+ miles on single charge. Just my guess.

Not a problem. The Tesla either switches the charging system in or out according as to whether it is required (AC) or not (DC). That switching would have to be modified somewhat but it is only switching. The more challenging problems would arise in modifying the software to interface with the CCS protocol. Not a major endeavour. The decision to add a CCS connector will be made based on marketing and design aesthetics, not on the basis of engineering concerns.

It is somewhat surprising to me that the CHAdeMO adapter is still sold but that no CCS adapter has been offered (in the US).

If I remember correctly the original prototypes were not exoskeleton designs but body on frames rushed out for the unveiling. I think MotorTrend mentioned that in there extensive write up on the Cybertruck. Or was that info not correct? I am sure the next ones we see will be closer to what the production vehicles will be like.
