5.5 Foot vs 6.5 Foot Bed

I'm not a fan of this particular vehicle's ego-driven design. I put a down payment on this because of Tesla vehicle quality, a 400 mi range, 4wd with ground clearance and, for this: it better be a damn pick-up.

My current pickup has an 9' long and 8' wide bed (1-ton flat bed); two 4x8 sheets can go side by side if need be, along with a full width couch, appliances, chairs and more - in one go. I haul wood, steel, vehicles, dirt, rock, etc.

However function isn't simply what you want the truck to be functional towards. You want a good work truck, I want a good baja truck. Both are valid functions. For me as long as the bed is big enough to mount 2 full size spares in a bed carrier, that's all the functionality I need out of the bed. A shorter wheelbase gives me improved breakover angles to clear bigger obstacles off road and an improved turn radius.

We'll see if any changes happen after Musk puts the Cybertruck through baja tests.

How do you guys feel about a 5.5 foot bed trim option vs the current 6.5 foot bed?

It would effectively make the Cybertruck a whole foot shorter.

For reference all Ford Raptors (Supercab and Crewcab) only come with the 5.5 foot bed option.

The R1T is about 4’. Not sure what you can fit back there other than groceries or soccer gear. And this is coming from a big Rivian fan.

Their considering a flip-stop so the bed would be like an 8ft, allowing 4x8 plywood. Function is subjective as well as form. I dont need to haul plywood but my equipment and materials do fit in a 6.5ft bed. It's functional for me. It's form for me.

Rivian advertises for adventure, Tesla advertises for hard work. There will be a small crossover but they are essentially different vehicles.

I would be impossible to keep the styling if they went with a 5.5' bed length. I viewed the Cybertruck in person when it was at the Peterson Museum and the dimensions with the 6.5' bed are spot on.

I am confident Tesla will be offering a 30% smaller ROW (rest of world) Cybertruck in 3-5 years due to the overwhelming response to the full size concept truck.

Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of the enclosed vault?

Plus you would need some sort of contraption at the end of the tailgate to secure the stack of plywood or drywall sheets from sliding out.

Tesla usually does simple and elegant.

8' Foot beds are perfect for hands on working people. I'll miss it. Yet if indeed the bulkhead/window combo can be opened to allow longer lengths, that will be very welcomed.

They may both be valid functions but work trucks are the #1 selling vehicle in America.

I bet Tesla goes with work truck.

And no offense but if you want a good baja truck I’m not sure why you are considering the CyberTruck.
