Update: Cybertruck Full Self Driving (FSD) Option Now Costs $8K

Seems like a no-brainer to lock in the 7k FSD now, for no risk. In 2 years when you you actually have to decide we should have a much better idea if it is worth it.

I feel sorry for people getting Teslas right now, it seems like a bit of an expensive gamble.

I was listening to something, I think "Our Ludicrous Future" podcast and the everyday astronaut guy was saying something like... We have yet to even automate rail, we still have a conductor and this is only 1 degree of freedom. Seems similar to planes, we still need a pilot waitching over it and these also have pre-routed paths (correct me if im wrong).

That industry seems to be purposefully blocked from innovation. Not sure if it is a continuation when the rail barons sucked all the profit and just costed on what they had, assuming that they would continue to make huge profits on the aging and slowly deteriorating infrastructure that was finally put on a slow ramp down with all the trucks coming back from WWII and the Federal Aid Freeway Act of 1956. The slow decline of rail increased since it now had competition for freight hauling. It seemed like those at the top of rail ignored the signs and did not want to change.

There is also the possibility that the big four railroad unions might have also had a hand in limiting or curtailing any automated rail system, but that is speculation on my part. Normally I think unions are ultimately helpful, but when they fight against innovation, it is usually a losing battle.

Look at some of the successful high speed rail systems in Europe, Japan, Korea, and China. They leverage a lot of automation, but there are things you want a little flexibility around, like passengers getting on and off, etc, so automation is useful for keeping collisions and switching issues from happening.

Just because the rail industry has resisted the automated features being used every day in other countries points to an issue with rail in the USA and not an issue with the lack or deficiency of the technology.

Though it does point to an issue with my country (USA) and its legislature...

I believe we are guaranteed when it is the option in our reservation. I am hoping to have this truck for a very long time, and with how easy the battery swaps are on Tesla, I expect that even the battery won't impact the useful lifespan of the truck =)

Thanks for the tip - I added it to my rez today (June 3) and it quoted $9,200 CDN (should be $7,000 USD). Actually that was a generous exchange rate, lol. Glad we can lock in at the original price.

Reserved at $7k. But I seriously doubt I’ll actually keep it in the final configuration. If I have that much more in my budget I’d probably put that toward upgrading to the tri-motor.

Wish I was Mr Moneybags and could opt for both tri-motor and FSD.?

I also locked mine in at 7k.. also probably wont buy FSD. But i will wait to see how much of a deal it is once im able to configure mine. Price could be $10k or higher by that time!

Yikes. I edited my order to add FSD. I'm still not sure I want it, but I suppose it doesn't cost extra to lock in the $7K price while we are waiting.

I changed my order to FSD to lock in and took out another order in case I am not in a position to buy mine when my first order comes up or I want to upgrade to a later model / longer range that may become available.
I figured at the new one at 860k in line it will be 4 to 5 years later so a good insurance policy.
Interesting it said my £100 was non refundable! However the attached agreement still said refundable.

I really don't understand the 100k price prediction for FSD by Elon Musk. It presumes there won't be a lot of other car companies and aftermarket autonomous driving options available.

Since they jacked up the price by $1000, they really should put in a $100 front facing LIDAR. Imo a small price to pay so the cars stop running into or under commercial trucks.

I think Musk was referring to what FSD would be worth to self driving taxi vehicles, not that they will be charging that much for the option. So if you want to whore your CT out, it will make you money!
