Tailgate port use?

I was wondering what the tailgate rectangular port will he used for. My guess would be 240v connection and/or air compressor, but would need connection to main body at hinge?

Maybe a release mechanism for the ramp? If that is a step I know I would use it unless I wanted to get out of some honey do's.
