That's the biggest problem. If they had built electrolysis plants everywhere and we were building storage at major points... maybe.

But we're not. Even developing a car for such an environment is putting the cart before the horse. Literally. Hydrogen is the horse and the car is the cart. There's no infrastructure to use.

Well, now that all the wind has blown out of the sails of the Nikola company as a whole,..

I suppose that's true...

it's safe to say that hydrogen is yesterdays fuel.

But that isn't true at all. Hydrogen has its obvious advantages and in applications where the obvious disadvantages are not disadvantageous hydrogen continues to move forward.

The age of hydrogen came and went, no significant infrastructure was ever built, too little too late.

Actually there is infrastructure and it is expanding. It is just in industrial settings (where, IMO, it belongs - hydrogen will not, in the foreseeable future, have application in the home or in personal vehicles.).

Electric is here now. If there were something better, Elon would use it.

There is no place for hydrogen in the market segments Elon's companies currently serve. The obvious place where Musk will adapt to fuel cells will be in his space craft and, if he ever wants the Semi to serve the full-load, long haul market, in the Semi.

Interestingly enough in this regard Canada has just announced a huge green energy program of which hydrogen plays a large part.
