Lordstown missing details on Endurance despite saying they're shipping early 2021

Lots of questions left unanswered. If they're shipping, why do we know nothing about their motors? Who would buy a truck without any information?

And while they're side-stepping onto the stock market, too.

Compared to the Cybertruck, which they say they'll beat to market, their details are thin. And no one in the press has gotten to ride in the Endurance, either. And now their press room stopped talking.

There are snippets of the hub motor testing in adverse, frozen, salt mist, salt water, drop testing, etc, on their website, but I do think the first Qtr 2021 is optimistic.

At the very least, the clip shows that the Endurance can tow an entire truck. No small feat.





It took a while but the electric trucks are finally coming. Now the big question is whether they will have as much towing capacity as their gas-guzzling counterparts. But Lordstown Motors wants everyone to know that it won’t be a problem for its all-electric pickup.

The Ohio-based EV startup has just shared a new video designed to show off the towing might of its upcoming Endurance truck. And the electric pickup seems to be more than up to the task, soundly beating America’s top selling truck, the Ford F-150, in a tug of war

In the clip, the 2022 Endurance and 2019 F-150 Lariat are both parked in a grass field, connected by a heavy-duty towing strap. Both drivers are told to start their engines, and within seconds the Lordstown truck can be seen easily dragging Ford’s pickup behind it, the latter’s tires spinning futilely in the wet dirt. And this doesn’t just happen once, but in three successive takes.

The video is a publicity stunt, of course, but it’s also an effective show of the Endurance’s power. The electric truck features a four-motor, all-wheel-drive set-up, with one motor located at each wheel. That allows the pickup to produce 600 hp and, more importantly for this display, 2,000 ft lbs of continuous torque and 4,000 ft lbs of peak torque. That means the Endurance can tow up to a 7,500-pound payload, comfortably ahead of the F-150 Lariat’s 4,500-pound curb weight. To be sure, those figures are impressive, but it remains to be seen how they will affect the vehicle’s battery life and range. Lordstown says the Endurance will be able to drive 250 mile one a single charge, but it’s unclear how that figure will be affected when towing a substantial payload.

It should also be noted that the F-150 used in this demonstration is not Ford’s latest or most powerful model. This particular Lariat is equipped with a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 that outputs 325 horsepower and 400 ft lbs of torque—specs that can’t quite compete with those of Lordstown’s pickup. The bigger, more apples-to-apples test will come when Ford finally debuts an electric truck of its own—especially if it can tow 1.25 million pounds. That’s a tug of war we won’t miss.

I actually think the Endurance is a pretty compelling vehicle. A little Ugly.. yes.. ugly. It just looks like a regular pickup trying to hard to look like an EV. Otherwise I like the technology and I cant wait for people to start taking those hub motors off of wrecked trucks and swapping them onto stuff.

Tire tread and vehicle weight would dictate the outcome of this 'wet grass" pull-a-thon.

Put snow tires on a two wheel drive car and that thing will pull a AWD car on street tires across a snowy parking lot. I've done it.

Once you start sliding, you have to spin-match to get traction again, and the truck just isn't geared to do that if sliding backwards.

I don't see where they mix these things up. Are you upset they strung the words tow...payload together?

Payload is weight carried BY the vehicle. Towing capacity is the weight of the trailer BEHIND the vehicle.

When used on its own. The word just means 'cargo weight' and doesn't specify where it's carried. (Hence, payload in a Cybertruck will means all spaces, not just piled into the frunk). So calling it 'towing payload' specifies that it's being towed.

And the etymology is 'the portion that's revenue generating' means that if you're paid to tow a trailer, that entire trailer is your 'payload'.

English is a very complex language not well suited for the precision of which you seem to want.

In both quotes it is clear that they are talking about towing. In that context the payload spoken of is the payload of the trailer not of the truck.
