Those are plastic panels, not a metal roof.

And you could just mount the cells directly onto the glass.

But I already said that.

What I am saying is if Tesla, instead of putting in a glass roof, used the same space to put in 2x2 solar array made of cells similar to the examples I posted. Of course Tesla needs to package the cells for the space available in the Cybertruck.

Just like there has been great improvements in EV batteries there has be great improvements is solar.

Cybertruck, RV trailers, and the long trailers towed by the Tesla Semi should have solar panels.

If Tesla replaced Cybertruck glass roof with something like:

It says it right in your link. The LG panels have 2.8mm glass face with a white plastic backing in an aluminum frame. The glass is easier to clean, I'll give them that.

Oh, I think I understand what you are thinking. You are saying to take off the aluminum frame and glue the panels to the top of the Cybertruck?

Sorry but it does not work that way. All high performance & long life solar panels require space underneath.

One of the reasons the flexible panels do poorly is because they are usually mounted with no space underneath.

They just need a heat sink. Which your cabin does nicely.

But since you have a panel there - like your suggestion with Tesla could do it - just mount the cells straight to the panel and skip the plastic. You can buy flexible traces that do that. Or just raw cells. That's how panels are made.

I have spent years working in steel metal fabrication companies.

Having 2-3 version of Cybertruck body will not significantly increases costs.
A version with metal roof ( no glass) should be cheaper.

The reason for the increased cost with traditional curved vehicle designs is because each body panel (11 or more) requires expensive stamping presses and dies.
I agree with Sandy Munro when he said in product design & fabrication, curves cost money.

Tesla even stated that one of the primary goals of the Cybertruck design was eliminating the need for stamping presses and dies usually used to make exterior body panels. Sandy Munro said the same thing. This hugely reduces the CAPEX for Cybertruck.

Also because there are no stamping presses & dies for exterior panels, Tesla could make the cheaper full metal roof style Cybertruck for less money and sell for cheaper than $39K & also sell glass roof version for $39K. Tesla could also make more metal roof Cybertrucks per day than glass roof model.

Tesla might easily have version where glass roof not installed & solar panels installed instead.

I would think the solar panel would be embedded in the glass of the roof. Maybe that would compromise the strength of the roof too much?

Naw, solar cells are very light. But Elon may not like the idea of blocking the view.

I love the glass cabin, but I also want more solar. I hope they allow us to add more.

The solar option would be nice. Imagine the possibilities, camping, off grid building etc.
I am definitely getting it when available.
Also an option for vehicle to house or vehicle to vehicle would be nice
I agree! I’m all in on the solar option and willing to forgo the FSD option. Also, I expect at some point there will be opportunity to pay for increased range with the CT2 model. 400 miles of range plus the solar option is sufficient me.
