Thanks for posting this. I tried to watch it one late night and did not make it through. I was happy to rediscover it today and happily made it all the way through. It makes me confident when Sandy likes anything, especially things that I’m interested in too.

This explains why something I expected to cost the better part of $120,000 won’t.

I watched the entire chat. What a guy. He shows why Tesla is number one and why all the other automakers are going to be in trouble. Like he said...who can name any other CEO of an automaker. I couldn't. I read that Elon was helping get cars in the hands of customers the last day of the year. Would another CEO do that. I have watched a few of Mr. Munro's chats and I like what I hear. He lets me know that Tesla is forward thinking and all the other auto makers are using their old technology to try to make tomorrows cars.

Sandy himself latched onto one prime use for the CT - people who want an adventure mobile. Either hauling toys, or campers, or even going for some light off-roading.

He missed the other thing that is pretty obvious here on the forum - lots of people just want an electric vehicle with 500 mile range.

I understand that Cybertruck won't really appeal to people who need a work truck to use all day for their business. But I was disappointed to hear him dismiss the use case for people who need a truck part time as a combo of adventure wagon and DIY maintainers of their home/estate. To me, that usage is what drives the large number of truck sales and what I need.

His positive experience with Tambore doors was surprising as well. Everyone I have ever know who has had a roll-top cover on their truck eventually removed it due to it becoming difficult to operate and they leaked in any case.

I see the low cost of production and smaller space to produce as a good sign for increase production. If Tesla wanted they could add a second construction line and really pump out the CT quickly. Batteries are going to be the real time consuming part of production however with the new dry technology from Maxwell Tesla might be able to reduce battery construction time in half or better. This will help Tesla produce more vehicles fast. Then if the CT is slowing in demand and Tesla decides to produce other Cyber vehicles it would have the second line ready to build the new product.

I didn't quite understand why this type of production is only good for 60,000 / year. It seems to me that you would just need to add another line if you wanted 120,000.

Perhaps I'm just worried that it will take more than 2 years of production before my reservation comes up.

I do not think it is limited to 50,000 a year. I can see it already being around 150,000+ a year as the M3 can be produced at this number and has more steps.

I think 60k was arbitrary, or it could be the point in which it makes sense to go from humans working many stations on the line to the point when automation takes over. not sure.

If you take a realistic look at the numbers, there somewhere around 500k RNs that were tied to the CT release. Many people had multiple in (iIsubmitted 6 times on release night and only need 1!) or place holders with no intention of buying. While there are estimates on that spreadsheet, I am guessing there are around 250k legit orders. working backwards, that puts it at 125 per year to hit your 2 year estimate. Then look at this website and you will feel better....https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-3-production-surpasses-6k-per-week/ ;)

This is like a birthday cake for me. I'm a retired aircraft structural mechanic, this is my former world and I totally get it and it's sheer genius from the Tesla engineers.

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this. Also, this guy is a truck owner that uses his in a similar manner as myself and probably lots of other folks. If he’s excited about the CT with his background, I guess I’m in pretty good company.

Exactly, other models require a paint process and more time spent stamping out blanks, it boggles my mind (not hard to do) on how this is going to ramp up production.

I don't know many roll tops that are made with bulletproof stainless steel. Could make the difference.

Do we really have any reason to believe the tambour cover is made of stainless? How would they form the slats to interconnect... wouldn't be able to stamp them.
