There are a lot of people who wish they could pay to get to the front of the line. You're not alone.

This is nothing less than wishful thinking... but who here would pony up a 10% down payment today in order to solidify themselves on an actual pre-order list that is much less likely to drastically change as time goes on?

a $100 refundable deposit is a joke. Granted it allows Tesla to boast they have the better part of a million pre-orders, but it is obviously a grossly inflated number, and once the CT's are actually available for purchase it will change drastically.

If Tesla emailed me today offering to put me on some sort of "serious buyer" list, and gave me an actual line number on a newly formulated pre-order list, I would be on it immediately. Separate the wheat from the chafe, and allow for the serious buyers to get a (much better) idea of what their true delivery ETA might be.

I would venture to say that by the time the CT is available their prices will be 59,000 69,000 and 89,000.

Prices to some arent a problem but to others it could be.

Sure hope you are wrong on the pricing but I’m afraid you could be right.

I suppose that could be a possibility, but realistically don't you think that would just absolutely ruin the Tesla fanbases' perception of the company?

Given that Elon has said multiple times that scaling the CT for production is going to be more difficult than anticipated, I certainly won't rule the possibility out that the price goes up... fingers crossed it doesn't.

I seriously hope that prices remain the same but watching various commodities rise - and the plans therein - I have a darkened outlook.

Even without considering the current price chart is 1-2 years old and we still have another 10-14 months before serious production starts... my fingers are crossed.

I wouldn't today. I want to see the final product first. I anticipate it will be friggin awesome, but I want proof before I put down a full down payment. You also say 10%, so for a Tri- here in Canada that's pushing past 10k. I don't have 10k in my pocket burning a hole right now. I installed a new heating system in my property that will be paid off in 2022 and my kids will be entering school saving me thousands in child care, so that's the year it makes sense for me to spring for a new car. Until then I'm watching my pennies.

I do expect this scenario will play out in the future though. At some point Tesla will reveal the final design, and as the production day draws closer they will tackle their pre-order list and ask people to put down a real down payment to finalize purchase. Then we'll see the real buyers from the posers. I doubt it will be 10% though, I looked into buying a model 3 and I think it was more like $2-3k up front?

I won't commit fully without knowing what I'm getting. I know Elon is busy, but c'mon. I don't take the $100 deposit lightly. You might, but I don't. I will be buying a CyberTruck unless something wild happens and this truck I have in my dreams, somehow doesn't meet up with reality.

Did the price of the M3 or MY change from reveal to delivery?

I’d put money down, but only if it allowed real clarity on the actual reservation numbers and not all this voodoo we’re playing with. I wouldn’t even call what we have now an educated guess... The surveys are great, but are based on Tesla “numbers” which have been proven to be skewed. I was almost believing the hype until they stated a few months ago “we don’t even know how many reservations we even have at this point”. What? I get why they’ve done it. Secrecy is good for interest. It certainly gets us spinning... but, if they want any more of my dough at this point, I want transparency and legitimacy not showmanship and games.

All that said, since this is only a thought exercise, I’m fine with waiting my turn and getting this beast when it’s my time. No other choice.

I would gladly put more down to get a realistic queue number. In addition, based on the latest info, the early Cybertrucks may be able to get an additional $7k EV tax credit. Yeah I know that may be extended into the future, but right now it would be nice to be part of the pre-approved 600k Tesla owners.

Lol yeah if the down payment secured you a $7k tax credit that would certainly change the game. I truly hope that is still available by the time the CT's roll off the line in full production numbers

I'd put 10% down if I could:

1. See final confirmed specs and ranges
2. Confirmed production timeline on single motor [the one I reserved]
3. A prototype test drive [This is a brand new type of vehicle, no telling if I can adjust to the blind spots, parking, etc. ]

Might be asking for a lot, but I could also wait a year for production to ramp up.

I would gladly put up to half down, but not until I see the final specs and design.
I would now but most likely would not have when i placed it week of reveal. I think the low barrier for reservation worked on many. I did it on a whim then became a huge fan as i was invested so to say.
This! You read my mind. I'm setting aside money now for a good down payment. Planning on 40%-ish for the tri-motor. Using your criteria, I'd give them what I have now, especially if that moved me up on the list.

I'm expecting the price in Ontario Canada for the trimotor to be $106,000 with FSD, taxes and no incentives. Pricy, but still my be worth it.
