I'd cater to both markets. Ramp up production so demand for personal vehicles and fleet use can both be met.

I'd also make sure FSD remains affordable for people using it for personal use, and have the option to pay a lot more for commercial use (upfront or as taxi fares are paid).

Have FSD optioned on my cybertruck but if they try to raise it to 12k 20k or 50k+ for personal use.... That's just self-destructively wrong.

If you had ten apples and I was offering $100 per apple, how many of your apples would you sell to the $1 an apple crowd? As long as a higher source of revenue was available, why sell to the cheap crowd? Sure, if the demand wasn't there, you would sell to both to maximize profit but not if you couldn't satisfy the $100 per apple buyers.

TyPope, I don't think many people will buy $100 apples. If someone wanted to pay me that much, I would reinvest that profit into growing more apple trees until I could meet the demand of the $1 apple crowd.

I would also try to make sure I don't neglect the $1 apple crowd because keeping customers happy is important for long-term success. Sure I might make more in the short term by ignoring them and only selling to the $100 per apple crowd, but that market won't last, others will make and sell them cheaper but still good apples.

Self-driving is one of the biggest innovations in personal transportation. Worth the price at this point. Not worth/affordable at $ 100,000.

Same here. From where I stand, FSD won't be road legal in most places for a LONG time. But I added it just in case there are some features that it provides that I couldn't live without. Will almost certainly be canceling it before delivery.

I do not think it has to be perfect. I do think it has to be significantly better than the average American driver before being approved to drive autonomously on the roads.

With the number of Tesla vehicles on the road increasing, the data they collect is increasing. This will help accelerate the training of the AI.

I have seen humans not handle things the AI handles. And that percentage will continue to grow.

I feel like it is unlikely for Tesla to start pressuring law makers by the end of this year to allow for autonomous driving in the US, but I think by the end of next year it will be very feasible.

While I agree with you generally, the problem is that whether such an option will be sanctioned for road use will be a state by state approach in the United States. And I see many states greatly hesitant to approve FDS for widespread use until and unless most of the road fleet (Tesla and non-Teslas) have that capability. All of this is to say that I see FDS coming. I just think that it's a LONG way off.

I still haven't added it, the almost only reason I would want it is for robotaxi use.
I would just pay the monthly fee they said they will probably be doing.

Good point/plan.

Note, even then I'm thinking 3-6 years is very optimistic for full fledged authorized use throughout the country, even if the technology is there. I am having a hard time seeing many states authorizing FSD on the road (hope I'm wrong) when most cars won't have the technology installed for a while at least.

While I'll likely be canceling my FSD as time gets closer, I would definitely spend that money to get the solar panels installed on the bed covering (I know Elon mentioned this as a possibility).

Not saying I won't buy it (I included it in my own CT resv.) but I will only fully trust FSD the day EVERY car has FSD - and maybe it should also be made by the same mfr. That way individual vehicle responses will all be based on the same hardware, programming and algorithms and therefore more consistently predictable by each car's AI.

I was listening to a technology radio program. On it a person bought a second-hand Model S with FSD. Supposedly, when Tesla discovered the purchase of the car they canceled FSD. (The Kim Komondor Show.). This was a retelling of the story by the host, do I do not know the particulars or outcome.

do not know if that was a freak occurrence or a Tesla corporate policy. If it is a corporate policy to cancel full self driving on subsequent sales that is wrong. If I buy a car and have it what whatever upgrade I do not expect Ford, GM, Chrysler or Tesla to then come to my home and virtually rip that upgrade off my vehicle. I bought it. It’s mine. And when I sell it then it is the new owners.

I really don't understand the 100k price prediction for FSD by Elon Musk. It presumes there won't be a lot of other car companies and aftermarket autonomous driving options available.

Since they jacked up the price by $1000, they really should put in a $100 front facing LIDAR. Imo a small price to pay so the cars stop running into or under commercial trucks.

LIDAR is very expensive. Musk was on a debate about different systems and he explained the reasons why that was not a plan for Tesla. “Mark, my word, cameras and radar are the way to go.” Have you seen the size of a LIDAR on Waymo’s vehicles? They are huge and ugly. Cost $20,000.

This particular Model S was sold by Tesla to a dealer at an auction WITHOUT FSD as an option, yet somehow the feature got left on. When Tesla realized the mistake they turned off the feature. Then everybody freaked out and they turned it back on.

This was not a normal situation. If you sell me your FSD car Tesla isn’t going to disable it.
