Production Cybertruck Size Reduced By 3% With a More Level Center Line and Lower Window Sills [Update: Interior Reduced 1.5%]

Elon said there is plenty of room in the cab area to reduce it in length previously. I also think they could do away with the flare at the back of the vehicle, where the top of the tailgate sticks out further than the bumper area.

I hope they keep that swept back flare of the tailgate... being stainless steel, following a Cybertruck at night could be tough with the reflection.

Then shorten rear door 2 inches and driver door 1 inch. Interior might loose a little but maybe dashboard and seats can be adjusted to minimize difference.

A slight size reduction is no big deal, but tinkering with the original design by flattening the center line to near level does not sound like a great idea. The raked approach gives it a more sporty, "Lamborghini" look. Changing that could make the production Cybertruck look more like the childish caricatures we saw as memes all over the web. I'm glad this was only a $100 deposit.

I got into this truck because of the functional features, so if Tesla changed those except for the better I might think twice. If I wanted a pretty truck I don’t think it would be the CT. To each his/her own.

I agree with you completely. The inches are going to come from the engineers identifying dead spaces between integral parts and compartments. the best example I could think of would be the footwells in the front seat area. Sliding the steering wheel and seat forward along with the foot well could be where most of the inches come from. We just don't know.

You do good work CT4FP. I think you might be correct on how they achieved the slight reduction in length overall.
And I also think it will be imperceptible.

But because pickup's come in many permutations of bed lengths, cab sizes . . . .
and the disclaimer on the order page about specifications for a global version of the Cybertruck will be offered based on overseas demand, which we now know is sufficient (approx 180,000 units to date) and would likely increase demand both in the U.S. and overseas.

I believe that a Goldilocks Cybertruck ( max length 208 inch, I hope, in my humble opinion ) is still forthcoming and will be designed and offered in the U.S. and globally. 208 inch would still be considered quite large in Europe and Asia / Australia.

Until then, I think you should have a crack and see what design you come up with ?
Perhaps experiment, I'm curious to see what happens if you steepen the belt line and even design it somewhere between a pick up and a shooting brake.

Many ways to find a couple inches.... I wasn’t attracted to dimensions (that’s what she said ?), but rather the functionality and specs. 3% makes zero difference to me.

Why would anyone freak out about a ~3% change to prototype that 1) we ALL expect to change, 2) we ASSUME we know maybe 10% of what will be the actual final production details, and 3) we have a $100 refundable deposit on for delivery in 1-2 years...

Many of us on the reveal thought that design was a trick, remember? Waiting for the fake side panels to drop off... then we got USED to it, and ugly became beautiful. But now...a 3% change (which allows it to now fit into countless additional garages) is at risk of ruining absolute perfection???

So many things could come up to require more design tweaks...and the specs we all assume are gospel now and should only be allowed to improve could actually get WORSE... If some technical gizmo can’t be produced cost effectively and now the range is 450 miles instead of 500... well, I’m still holding on to my reservation spot and the range was one of MY primary drivers.

I’m sure enough design changes could turn it from lambo-esque to Aztek-esque...but do you really think they would let that happen without a huge compelling reason? Have a little faith people!

Blame it on the covid craziness I guess...chill out guys! And expect more changes.

I think you got the 208 inch figure from me.
I was hoping for the "Goldilocks Cybertruck" ( Global 2nd version) to be, 208 inch long.

I think the - 3% means, 231.7 inch original length minus ~3% = approx. 224.7 inch new length.

In any case, Elon stated he's meeting with his engineering team next week, and "will post exact numbers soon".

225 inch would be very nice for Europe instead of about 240 like my RAM

yeah, that's my concern is bed length being to short to fit motorcycles...my 6'6" gmc bed is perfect to fit 3 dirt bikes with center bike offset and tail gate down...could probably survive with 6' but it's pushing it....using a trailer sucks for day trips not to mention a tri motor will prob destroy a light moto trailer

even if shrinks to a crew cab bed length of 5’7”, 3 Full size dirt bikes will fit no problem with tailgate down (assuming same size gate as a Ram for example).
