I like your concept. The CT needs to maintain the aerodynamics. I want to see/build a tent by making a big hinge at apex, flopping the hard lid with an integral 4" mattress over on top of the hood section with some sort of leveling post that engages or rest on the hood. The tent could then have some integral accordion support or for simplicity or a series of folding hoop tent poles. I bet the whole thing could be deployed in minutes.

The only problem is the angle of the vault, is the angle of your bed. For this reason, I prefer a rack above the vault that provides stability and a horizontal sleeping surface. Then, your clamshell design tent works well. I love how quick this type tent can be both deployed and packed back. peace
