Tesla Could Create Up To 15K Jobs With Gigafactory Texas: Report

Tesla Inc's (NASDAQ: TSLA) newest North American factory is being built in Austin, Texas. It will produce the Cybertruck, Tesla Semi, Model 3 and Model Y.


The factory is making quick progress, and a new report from the Austin Business Journal says the factory could employ up to 15,000 people, beating previous estimates.

In June, Tesla said the factory would bring 5,000 jobs through direct employment, with an additional 4,000 jobs indirectly created due to the factory.

But now the East Austin Growth Summit has estimated that Tesla could bring closer to 15,000 jobs to Texas through the factory.

Ed Latson, the executive director of the Austin Regional Manufacturers Association, said Tesla could bring more jobs than first estimated by attracting companies to supply Gigafactory Texas.

Latson said Tesla could attract up to 50 new companies to the state, and said he hopes Tesla can also find 50 companies already operating in Texas to support operations.

October 8th, the Climate Prediction Center declared that La Nina has developed and has an 85% chance of continuing through winter and 60% chance through spring. For Central Texas, La Nina patterns typically mean warmer and drier winters - as is now forecast in NOAA’s Winter Outlook.

How much bigger is this building compared to Giga Berlin?

Well, the building footprint is smaller than the complex currently being built at Giga Berlin.

But the site is much larger and the building itself will be larger than the buildings they've built in Germany.

The layout is also different; being long, straight lines with the casting equipment set deeper in the ground. Clearly they have a different idea of how to use the space.

I am guessing the columns are 40 feet apart, being the longest steel beams easy to transport. Yes?

For scale, I went to Google Earth and measured my estimate of that pad they have graded for the combined buildings is about 1/4 mile wide by 3/4 mile long. That's just the one area between the high power electricity lines and the Toll road. This is probably 1/10th of the total land they bought in Austin.
