When Volkswagen ran it's successful marketing campaign for the Beetle, they took on the competition simply. The Tesla Cybertruck is similar in concept and individuality in that it is way outside the boundaries of anything yet built to date. I saw the similarities with the VW Beetle and the Tesla CT. Judging by the initial deposits paid, I'd say the Tesla CT has the chance in history to be the next Beetle.
Another car that made a impact, but didn't sell as well as the VW Beetle was the Saab 900. Designed for aerodynamics primarily, it looked like no other car out there. Sharing the same form = function formula as Tesla CT, the 900 was ugly in appearance compared to other cars out there. However the product appealed to people with brains that saw beyond the "skin" of the product and deeper, more holistically into the product's core. Saab owners loved their cars as do Tesla owners who share aerodynamic, intelligently designed cars.
