AUTO HISTORY:
we have what is called the LCT which is charged on ALL new cars above $67,525 (19-20 FIN YEAR) which you get charged this TAX for non GREEN cars above this threshold (been increasing last 13 years) from 57,009(06-07)and $57,180(09-10) and the fee is 33% per dollar above this threshold e.g. 70k is $2,475 above which in gets 33% added for a extra of $816.75 added to the price tag.
But green cars have been held at $75k AUD mark since applied back in (09-10) which applies to fuel efficient cars that have a combined fuel consumption rating not exceeding 7 litres per 100 kilometres (based on a combined test cycle rating under ADR 81). but the threshold has not raised in more beyond 75k threshold in over 13 years but ICE cars have gone up in threshold 10k in same time so since (09-10) $75k to 75,375(10-15) and $75,526 from 16- now.
but this tax was applied to help keep OUR OWN auto manufactures viable against foreign imports (europe and asia mostly) but now since we have NO CAR MANUFACTURES here in australia what is the point of keeping the TAX in play when all we do is import cars which is now COST prohibitive and with FTAs (free trade agreements) we are making ourselves a country where car manufactures won't want to send anything this way as low sales numbers because too expensive to buy because of these UNNECESSARY taxes are applied
SO THIS IS WHY THIS POST
there is a petition in the federal australian government to have this repealed and with a large portion of #cybertruck orders being dual or tri and maybe(QUAD hoping) 500,000 pre orders(world) and 3% in oz(14k in oz)(12k being dual or tri) costing at least 76k aud for a dual before gst etc you can most likely add an extra $2k aud for just asking for FSD let alone anything else

so all i am asking is for people to sign this petition
https://t.co/68CQPmUVUs?amp=1
also note i do not think you have to be australian to sign it, so just try but if ask for an australian address talk privately to a few of your twitter australian friends (most have 1) to get a address to add need all the help we can get to help get more ev's on the aussie roads and removing this tax will help to start

well you already pay other taxes e.g stamp duty(why does the A.C.T. not charge on green cars) and the others charge almost as much as the LCT, gst, plate fee(price varies greatly state to state why not the same), ctp(even if adding full comprehensive insurance from a third party), rego fee(no dramas here) why do we need to pay the gov another TAX

I've also signed the petition. I think it is a stupid tax that should have been abolished years ago. Interestingly I think the Cybertruck may end up being exempt anyway because it is a commercial vehicle (essentially a ute like a Hilux) that can carry more in payload weight than passengers.

as we know the government does not like EVs so somehow i think they will try and exclude this from being classed as a commercial vehicle by claiming something like "if it can not tow a certain distance it is not a commercial vehicle"

Totally support this petition! Sorry been a bit late, the petition is already been closed.

In the US, there is even federal / state government support and electricity company debate when you purchase Tesla cars, we have none here in the AUS but extra luxury car tax.

Australian gov just keep raping its Citizens into broke ass slaves and there is nothing we can do
to change it other than move to another country that better serves its people then and only then the government will wake up but how many people are in the position to leave their country when majority of their people are in debt to their eyeballs.

probably the greens or any party targeting Millennials
Yes, Greens has some proposal of "subsidies of up to $10,000 for individual ACT residents" when purchasing a new or second hand EV cars, however the max car value has to be less than $60k:

" Note that the subsidy is NOT for purchasing more-expensive, luxury vehicles and therefore will not be available for passenger vehicles with a purchase price above $60,000. As of June 2020 there are four available EVs for less than $60,000 in Australia (Nissan Leaf, Hyundai Kona Electric and Ioniq, Renault Zoe), with 2 more due for imminent release (MG ZS EV and Mini Electric Hatch). " - https://greens.org.au/act/EV
