Door operation

For those who were at the unveiling, or rode in the CT, how did the door handles operate and how did the doors work? Was everything manual? Did the door handles work like a new MS or like an M3? Is there any assist when the doors open? Are the doors super heavy? How was the insulation and seals on the doors? Soundproofing? Sound isolation in the cabin in general?

not me. I don't like scratching the area behind the door handle and sometimes it is very hard to push and grab those handles (if I have things in my hand, etc.).

Why are the retracting handles not practical? Lets say you are on a job site and your hands are a mess (very normal, even in sporting contexts). If you grab the handles you get crap all over the car. Ok, its stainless steel and maybe you don't mind, but it is still crap on your car that you have to later get off. If the door handle opens and closes at least you can limit where the crap goes to the handle. Having a door that partly opened like the 3/Y would be better, and having a door that opens all the way like the X would be even better (but maybe too difficult to implement with a heavy door - though the X must have pretty heavy doors).

I don’t think it’s practical to have to get them repaired. From what I hear the door handles are the #1 point of failure on the Model S. I want a truck designed to be... well, “bulletproof”.

But maybe they have improved the design and it’s no longer an issue.?‍

I would go with you on that for sure, but I would hope they have that dialed in by now. I have never had a door handle fail and I am dilute i wouldn’t like it. Our Model 3 sometimes forgets who we are and that is bad enough we are so spoiled...

The Y is all manual. It doesn't open for you. I don't know about the 3 but I believe it is also manual to help keep the cost down.

Yes model 3 is the same as Y.
Saw a youtube about the X last night and one major dislike for the owner was the auto opening front doors (note:you can turn of this feature). I guess if he walked by the car with his cell in his pocket the car would often T bone him . Or would open when traffic was wizzing buy. Smart enough to see obstacles next to the door but not as good at anticipated things coming up fast (ie. cars/bicycles).
But as above I sure they've they've been working on these things. One of the many amazing things about Tesla is they take owner feedback and constantly make adjustments over the air. No one else is doing that.....yet.

I watched some youtube videos of people taking test drives on the night of the unveiling and the handles are at least a bit automated and there was a virtual simulation that suggested the doors open like the Model X but I thought I heard somewhere where Tesla wasn't going to do that. I watched a youtube video about the Model X where they said that sometimes the front door would interfere with the falcon wing door opening and vice versa, in terms of getting in and out, but that would not be a problem for the CT since there are no falcon wing doors. I do not see automatic opening as any more of an issue than an automatic tailgate (which I consider more or less essential - and mine on my Lexus RX stopped working this year after 8 years).

If the Cybertruck comes with the auto doors, I'll probably disable it due to the amount of times I'm walking towards my truck at the worksite. If you have to be super close than maybe but I don't want the door to open every time I need to grab something in the back.
