I visited the Petersen Museum to see the CT in person and was very impressed. It’s much better looking in the flesh and you get to see the real size of the truck.

The first thing I noticed Is how much more gloss the stainless steel has than the truck they revealed in November. I hope Tesla goes with the duller “matte“ stainless steel on the production trucks. It has the look of a sharks skin and looks great on the Cybertruck.

Regarding the 2nd pic, that might not be the best comparison to what you saw at Petersen as that CT is the clay model. Can you update it with a photo of the working prototype shown in November?

I don’t care, I just want them to move forward at the best possible rate. I have stainless in my garage of all grades. I find the dull stainless to be boring but I could see why people would want their car to look dull. On the other hand, I have highly polished stainless and I can see why people might not want their cars having that kind of sparkle. I have some stainless that isn’t dull but also doesn’t sparkle and that is what I expect to see, but in the end 3mm stainless will do it for me. There are bigger fish to fry.

Lighting makes a big difference too. On reveal night lots of people were recording their rides. I noticed a few times where it caught the light and really looked shiny. I think it’s gonna look different at different times of day.

But mostly I’m with jhodges, dull, shiny or in-between... whatever I’m good.

In the long run I don’t think it matters. I am estimating 25% of CT owners will have a vinyl wrap installed soon after delivery.

The vinyl wrap idea is intriguing but quite expensive. To me, getting the extra mileage and FSD, which takes my CT up into the mid 80s after taxes and licensing, is already quite the splurge. So no wrap for me. How did you come up with the 25% estimate?

I love the matte look and the lightly polished look. A highly polished finish would look cool too.
To each his own, but I really don't understand why people would want to cover the toughest finish ever used on a truck that is unique and beautiful and will last forever, with an expensive vinyl wrap that only lasts 5-7 years. Unless you hate the look of stainless, vinyl only makes sense on an easily damaged paint finish imho. I bet only about 10% will do a wrap on a CT.

I have a hard time grasping that people are going to take their wrapped Cybertruck off-road, or actually USE them like a truck. I could see adding personalized graphics on the front or tailgate. But not wrap the whole truck and abuse the wrap.

25% is simply my hunch. Owners want to personalize their vehicles to help separate them from the pack. This will definitely apply to the Cybertruck because no paint will be applied. 100% of them leaving the factory will look exactly the same.

If a wrap means leaving $5k at a shop, I'd also predict around one-quarter of owners. But if an after-market or factory option is pre-cut pieces (in your choice of pattern) that owners apply, for under $2k, I'd expect three-quarters to go for it. Those surfaces beg for it.
