For everyone who thinks the Cybertruck will be heavy... Have you seen this?

That was well done. Some of these type of "explaining" videos either take way too many liberties or end up being too hard to listen through. You were easy to listen to and had the right amount of files popping up on the screen. Like I said, well done.

That’s a good video and explains a lot about the future of Cybertruck. However that information is in conflict with what Tesla filed in California (different class of truck due to increased weight). Apparently it was showing well over 8000 pounds and therefore people were comparing with a Ford F250 truck.

Hey you’re right, Tesla informed the California regulator that the Cybertruck would fall under the Class 2B-3 category.
GVWR = 8,501 lbs - 10,000 lbs.
Meaning the all variants of the Cybertruck will have a curb weight of 5000 - 6500 lbs. ( due to 3500 lbs payload capacity )

It would be great if the Cybertruck was as light as he thinks, but he’s not too far off, at least for the Dual Motor.
But considering his research and that he’s a lawyer, its strange he doesn’t mention the public Tesla letter to the regulator !

Previously I’ve given reasons why and stated the following :

Dual Motor will weigh about 5100 lbs and do about 380 miles
Tri Motor will weigh about 6200 lbs and do about 680 miles.

Personally I think he may be way off on the Tri motor if he thinks it will weigh an even 5000 lbs. Though I truely hope he’s right.

Things that make you go Hmmm about the Cybertruck racing the Baha 500.

Facts:
Model S with 100 kw/hr battery weighs about 4950 lbs and has just had the range extended to 390 miles.
Cybertruck by truck classification declared by Tesla cannot weigh more than 6500 lbs.
We know the heaviest CT is the Tri- motor with the biggest range, 500 miles PLUS !
We know through Motor trend that the Tri - motor simply has 2 battery’s stacked on top of each other.
Counter intuitive to heavy 3mm thick bullet proof Stainless. CT is very light for a truck because of Exoskeleton design.
(putting aside battery weight)
Weight of 100 kw/hr battery in Model S weighs roughly 1100 lbs.
Elon wants CT suspension to be Baja racing capable, if not actually wants to outright race the Cybertruck,
( which is problematic from a battery point of view)

Approximate Extrapolation:
CT Tri motor will weigh approx. 6200 lbs ( incl. 2 x 100 kw/hr, 1100 lbs batteries )
CT Dual Motor will weigh approx. 5100 lbs ( estimate 1 x 100 kw/hr battery )

Maybe like the Semi, where Tesla is quoting range figures of 500 miles, thats based on towing a fully loaded trailer,
that perhaps Tesla is being very coy about what the PLUS means in the quoted range for the Cybertruck.

And we still don’t know what exactly Battery day is going to deliver.
So I would venture to speculate that the :

Cybertruck Tri motor will do around 680 miles unloaded.
Cybertruck Dual motor will do around 380 miles unloaded

Which would make racing the Baha 500 much more feasible.

Deluded, wishful thinking, or could it be about right ?
If the DM has a 100 kw/hr battery then it seems an expectation of 350 mile range is reasonable. The weight would be comparable to the Model X. The coefficient of drag is comparable. And the battery would be comparable. The Model X is rated at 351. Can someone check my math? ;)

Thanks for bringing up the exact numbers.
One could also assume that he made the video before Tesla field that application and was therefore not privi to that information.

Dynamic suspension to which Musk alludes could forgo an automotive design for a race geometry which incorporates AI dynamics for controlling ride in production models. It would effectively mark the full transition off an automotive skate platform to a true-truck skate for Cybertruck. That ends any SUV slander from the competition that Cybertruck is just an SUV in pickup drag.

Elon Musk mentioned that the Cybertruck’s air suspension system would be completely different from those used in the Model S and Model X. This suggests that unlike the two flagships, both of which are designed for the city, the Cybertruck’s suspension is intended to be used under rough and tough conditions. Musk said as much, stating that the Cybertruck is being designed to dominate in events like the Baja 1000, an off-road racing series where the auto industry’s best trucks compete against each other.

My guess is that the CT will use forged upper and lower control arms for durability and 6-lug wheels.

Considering how Elon stated the Cybertruck “Needs to kick butt in Baja”
and they’re “ . . . increasing dynamic air suspension travel for better off-roading”

If he’s even remotely serious, which I have no doubt he is, doesn’t that mean they are preparing to race,

the Shortbed Cybertruck (around 127” wheelbase) !

It will be around 500 lbs lighter, have more range, and intrinsically handle better,
by far, a better and essential, off - roading and energy efficient package ?

As he’s already confirmed a smaller Cybertruck is currently being worked on, and April 17 he tweeted
“Reviewing overall system with vehicle engineering team next week. Should have number then.”

Here's the message from myself Captain Obvious ;) or am I wrong ?

NEWS FLASH :

SHORTBED CYBERTRUCK RACING BAJA.

Announcement coming very soon.

one of the challenges of Baja is the dust getting into engines. Not a challenge for a CT. At the end of a race the CT driver would be clean sipping a latte.

Tesla is stepping into new territory manufacturing a pickup truck with an SS exoskeleton, dynamic air suspension, independent suspension, etc. I have never been so excited to take delivery of a vehicle as I am with the CT. 2022 can’t come soon enough!
