Wouldn't it be better to improve or change the various problems before delivery of Cybertruck?
Nope. You need to have a Cybertruck in order to make a camper fit. Because of the angled vault, it's impossible to accurately gauge how long, or at what angle to build the camper. Horse first, then cart.

Just to add, the camper is going to suffer because of the “sails.” A lot of interior room will go away. You can’t expect the truck to do everything well.

There is no evidence for this.

I thought OCS12 was referring to the shape of the sails and how they would keep a camper from working similar to a traditional truck bed, the camper usually extends out over the bed sides and that creates an area for a wider living/seating area than just bed width. It's difficult to explain, but if you look at the layout of traditional campers you may understand that the sails will make for a "narrower" overall usable floor plan, unless they make the sails removable (doubtful).

I think the sentiment is true, it won't (can't) be excellent for every possible "truck" use case. But it will definitely be awesome!

Look at the outside shape and the floorplan of this truck camper:
https://www.truckcampermagazine.com/camper-reviews/2020-cirrus-720-review/

You'll see that, if you're sitting in the camper's seats, your legs would be inside the truck bed and most of your body will be outside of the truck bed.

Truck camper floor plans are constrained by the shape of conventional pickup truck beds. They would be more constrained by the CT's truck bed, and less constrained by a flatbed pickup truck.

Pulling a travel trailer really is a simpler solution to all of these issues, because the truck/trailer interface is fairly standard-ish.

These might be a nice fit for the size camper in discussion on this thread:

You can tow most of them with smaller tow-vehicles, and use it while you wait for the CT. Most of them are so light that the CT can probably beat the tuner kids at a stoplight with the trailer attached, so secure your belongings appropriately!

Our first trailer was a 17’ Casita fiberglass trailer! It was great, except that there were 5 of us, just wasn't practical. Now we have an all aluminum 21' trailer with one slide out, still under 5k lbs and not a behemoth, but fits our family of 5.

Truck campers require a lot of engineering. A trailer could be built now, and quickly hooked up.
The Caravan & Trailer seems to be more unsafe and inconvenient than truck campers for the following reasons.

-As the parking area is doubled, it causes inconvenience in neighboring vehicles.
-It is difficult to turn because the turning radius increases when connecting the trailer.
-Because the trailer is towed, the center of gravity of the vehicle is pulled back, making it difficult to drive.
-Difficulty adjusting the direction of the driving vehicle when reversing.
-There is a high risk of a overturn accident due to a swaying when driving.

Campers have a high center of gravity, are heavy and have a huge effect on vehicle handling, and much smaller space than most trailers. Each one seems to have pros and cons. I like that you can leave your trailer at the campsite and then drive the truck as normal. Of course as with many things, it all depends what your goals and use case are.

A) A fifth-wheel isn't within inches of the towing cab.
B) The back wall of the Cybertruck is shorter than other trucks.
C) We don't know the depth of the bed.
so
D) There's no evidence the sails would interfere.

Thing is that every truck has a point at which there will be interference. To make the extreme case, a regular ICE pickup will have interference at some point less than being turned fully 180 degrees. I have seen trucks on occasion doing a reverse turn with a fifth wheel where the angle was a little over 90 degrees from a straight alignment. Depending on the setup, fifth wheel shape, and other conditions, maybe the CT will be able to do that also. Perhaps if the truck is lowered just right it could do even better.

At this point everything is speculation. Once there are some accurate prototypes out and about, perhaps we will see a video of a test run with a fifth wheel. That would really help clarify things.

We're sort-of in the market for a light travel trailer suitable for a family of 5.

We hope to pull it with with our GMC Sierra for now, and then swap in a tri-motor CT when it becomes available to us.

Which one works for you?
