Automatic tonneau bed cover retracting and deploying

Good question. Stopping the cover at any point would be beneficial.

My question is how are we going to ensure no debris gets stuck in there? Also, snow and ice and things like that could cause a problem...I'm a little worried since I live in Canada.

yes, it will need a safety stop if stuff or living things get in the way. Perhaps there is a pressure strip on the leading edge.
