I doubt they will outright cancel the RWD. It's worth noting that Tesla official numbers show 250+ on the single motor. They wouldn't be lying if that plus sign drifted upwards to 300.

Smart people around here have done some calculations and figured the DM would be around 350 and the TM about 600 when released.

I'm hoping that Battery Day gives us higher-yielding batteries. I would assume the mileage they are quoting stays the same, but maybe they can do it with less batteries than currently used. With less batteries comes lower costs. This is the only way I can see how the cybertruck will meet the pricepoints. It certainly seems like a much better value than a Model Y at a similar price.

GM promises a 400 mile range electric pickup today. The electric pickup truck competition will be heating up in 2021-22. I think Tesla will surprise us all on Battery/Investor Day September 22nd. It’s only 8-weeks away, mark your calendars!

My best guess, Battery Day says new tech makes the “+” the key term. They are waiting to confirm they can start producing the batteries en mass.

I suspect they are already making the new batteries. Why? My speculation follows:
The cancellation of the standard range Y and the recent drop in price. I feel they dropped the price to get rid of the old battery stock. Tesla estimated that they could sell out the stock they had and use up previous design materials before Battery Day. Then the price either returns to normal or not. They announce here’s our new technology and we are already putting this in any car we manufacture from today on. They don’t have a bunch of older tech cars around they need to seriously discount like the Big 3 do when the next year model comes out.

The pre-order implies 250+ / 300+ / 500+
I can only assume with battery day coming, they will have no problem adding at least 50 miles to each variant.

I have always thought that that dual motor cyber truck will have 400 miles of range or more in perfect conditions.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if it takes them three or four years to produce any rear wheel drive cyber trucks and by then I think it will be a mid-range or even long-range version. That is why I put in a second reservation this time for the dual motor version.

I agree that the $39k rear wheel drive version is years away. I am guessing that it will have very limited options. I predict steel wheels with skinny tires, vinyl interior and floor covering, a basic sound system, etc. Think work truck and what a contractor/service company would spec for their field employees.

Your really just looking at the fact that Tesla can then use less cells to achieve the same kWh pack and range. So hopefully that means reducing cost.

But your are correct, it could also mean more energy in the same volume under the vehicle!
