Canadian Prices Suck

Buying a Tesla in Canada is generally only for the rich. If we compare USD vs CAD pricing, we see a multiplier of about 1.6. This is way beyond the currency exchange rate which is around 1.3. An entry level Model Y will set you back about $80,000 CAD with advanced autopilot.

Single Motor Cybertruck ~$64k + autopilot = $74k CAD
Dual Motor Cybertruck ~$80k + autopilot = $90k CAD
Tri-Motor Cybertruck ~$112k + autopilot = $122k !!!! CAD

And since Canada is both huge and very cold, anything less than the 500 mile range battery has very limited usefulness. These prices are out of control. I could buy a top of the line pickup truck for half this cost.

And for my American friends, no, Canadians do not have higher salaries. we have low salaries and high taxes, and a currency with terrible purchasing power. That's what socialism gets you.

But the prices you quote are not about socialism or taxes are they? It sounds like pure capitalism to me. Your complaint is with Tesla. Why don’t you lobby for a Canadian Tesla manufacturing plant because the shipping costs and import duties might be affecting the prices. Can you buy one here and drive it back to Alberta? Lots of nice parks between Austin and Calgary. I love Canada.

Yes, the CAD to USD exchange rate is really unfortunate most of the time. Also, it's not as easy as buying a vehicle in the US, driving it to Canada and selling it there. It has to be imported, following the rules contained in www.riv.ca (Registrar of Imported Vehicles). Usually, a new vehicle can't be imported until it is at least 6 months old, sometimes it needs equipment changes to meet Canadian DOT standards,(unless it was built to meet both sets of requirements), and of course you'll need to pay the sales tax on the value in Canadian dollars. Oh, and there are fees.

I once imported a Corvette to Canada that I bought in Virginia when I lived there. Then, a few years later, I re-imported into the US when I moved to Florida. Crazy, I know... paid sales tax on it twice. Try explaining the movements on a CarFax. ?

It's not all exchange rates. At the current (this minute) rate if I wanted to buy a TriMotor up here I would have to instruct my bank back in the states to wire USD $84,336. That's appreciably more than the USD $69,900 in the States. All the free stuff Canadians get from Socialism turns out to be pretty expensive.

I'll bet you like the healthcare those taxes get you.... and our salaries are not low.... you can buy a top of the line pickup for 122 ÷ 2 = 61k ? that's not top of the line by any means..... by any legacy truck.

To only be delayed by a queue rather than money and a queue.

To not be overcharged, and have rights when it happens.

To be covered when you're too sick to work, to be covered before you're destitute. To be covered as a student or unemployed or self-employed.

I have gotten sick in the US and much prefer the system there as do our Canadian friends who have moved to the US because of medical needs.

But for Americans with no ties to Canada, moving north with the hope of accessing affordable health care isn't that simple — and some say the rules around medical inadmissibility are too strict.

Middle class, rich, not-so-rich. Did my honors thesis on the health care situation. Takes an average of 6-9 months to get a non-emergent CT scan in Canada. I can also state some great examples where the Canadian system did great work in caring for critically ill citizens. Overall, I will stay with what we have and fix it.

Pretty similar in the states. It takes, I'd say, 6-9 minutes to schedule one there. The 6 and the 9 are the same and the time units both begin with "m". Still have to deal with the BaSO4.

Bottom line is really pretty much the same as with everything else. You get what you pay for.
