Airless Tires For Offroad?

Saw the idea years ago, but now it looks like this recent video shows Michelin and General Tire partnering up to really make THIS.

Would seem ideal for offroading with no issue of flats - dependent on how durable the tech turns out to be.

Just a clarification that Michelin and GM (General Motors) were going to work together to test out the Uptis airless tires on Chevy Bolts. Not General Tire (subsidiary of Continental Tire) but General Motors. I can't wait for these tires to become available, but if current prices on the Tweel airless tires are an indication they will be very expensive. It also remains to be seen how long treads will last and what the cost would be to retread (if cost-effective).

If they have the stats to factor in what percent of tires actually need true replacement due to non-wear issues such as blowouts, flats on the sidewall, etc., then they could likely figure out a price point to make these new tires profitable while still not gouging us consumers Too much...

Super cool, but why not make it for regular street use first. Test it with zillions of miles, then adapt it to offroad.

Tests showed that the ride is not superb yet with Tweels. The fore and back movement can't be compensated yet. So we habe to wait. Non street usable offroad tires have basically no market.

I think this is an horrible solution.

Think about the unbalance problem you would have in mud or snow.

I think they found that mud, snow, debris, etc. just don’t stick because the tweel deforms (like a tire) as it rotates and anything trapped gets pushed out. I hope they are light enough. I will want to reduce rolling weight as much as possible.
