Tesla has traditionally used rack and pinion steering racks in all of their vehicles. I am curious if Tesla will switch to a recirculating ball steering box since the Cybertruck may be classified as a 3/4 ton truck, have an adjustable air suspension and will be off-road capable.

Below: GM’s 2500 Pickups use DSA (digital steering assist). DSA is a computer-controlled hydraulic variable-assist steering system that makes GM HD pickups feel just as nimble as their half-ton counterparts, which have programmable electric power steering.

I took this chassis photo during my visit to the Peterson Museum.

NICE! yeah looks like it would be rack and pinion but who knows for sure. I would be happy with it. My LR3 has full independent air suspension and the rack and pinion works great on it.

Interesting thought of what type of steering gear will be used in CT, I know in Dec. 2006 Freightliner installed a rack & pinion rack in their class 8 truck with a great deal of success. I would suspect to save weight and reduce the required space, plus steering gear has much fewer components. It makes sense to use a electric assist that can interpret road speed and provide the correct amount of steering assistance according to vehicle speed.
