So its been everso slightly quiet on this thread for 9 months, but now the story is back in the news again with the Minister of State for Business, Energy, and Clean Growth saying the government is considering the site for a Tesla Gigafactory...
Seems all you need to be an automaker these days is to hire an art student for a couple of days, send their most futuristic drawings over to a contractor in Austria, & get them to build it with your badge on the front - worked for Jags iPace & the Ocean

Personally, I always wanted a smaller version as I'm trying to be practical about its usability on European roads.
When you get comments from people in the US saying it will even be too big for their garage, you have to think about how many bays this will take up at the local ASDA - its bad...
JLR are around 5 years behind ...... Everyone!
Range Rover is still planning for Mild Hybrids in 2 years time - https://www.carscoops.com/2020/12/next-gen-2022-range-rover-caught-winter-testing/
Reckon it'll be 2024 when we see the Wolverine or whatever its called by then over here - I can wait
Been looking at the Polestar Precept & thought its "stick-like" side mirrors/cameras would also look good on the CT - Not sure how theyre going to be configured on the Precept, but just imagine if these either withdrew or folded flush into the body when parked
Not sure a drop test is the right way to test out building brick properties
Here's a list of the tests they normally do - dropping not there - who'd have thought? :rolleyes:
Guess the "Soundness" Test comes closest - now there's a video to make!!
So, are you saying the Insurance companies aren't that bothered & dont need to be informed, (although I guess they'll probably get a memo from the manufacturer informing them of that particular models upgrade)
Another question then - So if your saying different states have different motoring...
A general question for insurance on cars that have o-t-a updates:-
So you buy the car - get the best insurance quote based on that particular car's spec - sorted!
So then what happens when one day you've have an "over the air update" that's increased the performance by say 10% - Do you now...
I'll bite ...... So where would you like it to be made?
I could be wrong, but guessing that as like me, your in the UK so you'd also like to wave the flag & buy a British car.
Most of my vehicles have been UK built -
Austins, Morris's & Triumph's in the 70's
Dutton Phaeton & Langridge Navajo...
Yeah, but there again, for some reason I've never considered the Cybertruck as a Pickup Truck.
Pickup trucks just aren't that big a thing over here - although, I probably see 3 or 4 a day when in town.
The majority of students at the local agricultural university generally drive regular saloons...
Only problem with waiting is working out what car to get for the next 3 yrs - my estimate of it arriving in to the UK.
Been weighing up Model3 vs Polestar2 vs Hyundai 45 - Currently Polestar 2 just ahead
This Jet suit has been on the news in the UK today
Couple of these would fit nicely in the back ready for all emergencies
They're currently trialing it for Paramedic / mountain rescues in the Lake District (the wet mountainous bit in NW England)
Can't see anyone designing a vehicle where it would be impossible to readily replace a major component such as a faulty battery section/pack - if anything, going by what Elon said about recycling old packs on BD , its going to be made a lot easier.
As you say - Higher Voltages{V}means a lower Current{I} through the cables resulting in both copper cost savings & less weight.
Back to school time:-
Power {W}=V*I
Lets say Charging Power = 150Kw {150,000 Watts}
At 400 Volts, Charging Current =150000/400 = 375Amps {CSA of copper rqd =300mmsq}
At...
Fair enough :)
Any idea how something like the Cybertruck would fare in a crash test - do cars still have to have crumple zones over there - just wondering if bulletproof s/steel would absorb frontal energy by deformation?
Its not the lights that are the issue here - and if they were it'd be a relatively minor thing to fix!
The main difference between US vs Euro, is the Pedestian Protection Regulations which have been around since at least 2005.
Basically means that cars have to be designed to do least amount of...
Couldn't be clearer (y)
I'll even put the good bit in bold this time
" We’ll probably make an international version of cybertruck that’ll be kind of smaller .. you know – kind of like a "tight Wolverine package” - it’ll still be cooler, but it’ll be smaller cos you just cant make a giant truck...
Just done a transcription of the gist of what was said on battery day about the non-US version of Cybertruck:-
Question from Ryan MccAffrey {Ride the Lightning podcast}
Curious about Cybertruck – it was interesting to see where you had it on the battery technology front, - I’m sort...
